There are three basic components to "going green" that we utilize in varying degrees depending on the client, building department, site, & design. Some of the components integrate the use of sound construction practices & others relate to products utilized in the building.

Sustainable materials: Products that help conserve our natural resources: renewable products, recycled products, sustainable and/or certified products that tend to be more durable, lower maintenance, & have a longer life. Products include metal roofs, fiber cement siding, engineered lumber, composite decking, recycled glass or paper based (pulp from certified forests) countertops, bamboo flooring, and reclaimed lumber for flooring & trim.
Indoor Air Quality: Encompassing the environment of the home to reduce mold and toxins in the air. Products or practices include a formaldehyde free insulation, Low-VOC paints & adhesives, adequate ventilation, paperless drywall, and proper caulking & sealing.
Energy Efficiency: Addressing the performance of the home: High Efficiency HVAC systems, On-Demand tankless water heaters, Energy Saving lighting, Energy Star Appliances, High "R Value" Insulation, Solar Systems or components, Living Roofs, Building Positioning, Energy Efficient glass, and attention to sealing the structure.

If everyone integrated components of one of these areas in their home, just one product or practice, they could make a substantial difference to the environment & to their quality of life. Our motto is "There are many shades of green.". We love to work with clients to develop their unique shade, from light to dark. We also strive to be aware of the production practices of our suppliers to insure that the product is eco-friendly in its development. But we also take conventional plans and do what we can to integrate eco-friendly products and practices. We can make it easy for you to be green.
